The Cincinnati Reds now have the ability to trade Aaron Harang and Bronson Arroyo after the players cleared waivers, SI.com reports.
Teams that need a starting pitcher can acquire Harang or Arroyo and probably won’t pay their full salaries. Harang is owed $18.5 million through next year, and Arroyo has $16.5 million left on his contract that also expires after next season. The Yankees have been mentioned as a possible suitor for either starter.
Even though these veteran pitchers could help a contending team make the playoffs, they would need to turn their seasons around. This year Harang is 6-13 with a 4.43 ERA, and Arroyo is 10-11 with a 5.04 ERA.
